Entusiasmados por el éxito de las dos películas de Batman que dirigió Tim Burton, Warner Bros. encargó una caricatura para atraer al público infantil a Bruce Timm, Paul Dini y Mitch Brian. Como las cintas tenían un tono más oscuro, los creadores fueron libres de desarrollar una versión igualmente madura, sin llegar a la parodia, que fue todo un éxito.
Esta ficción se destacó por su animación, la cual sirvió de ejemplo para otros proyectos com o ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’, que debutó meses después.
Mezclando diferentes corrientes de arte, como el noir y el art deco, además de los diseños de Tim Burton, ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ se convirtió en un clásico de la pantalla chica.
