Vanguardia Central America was carried out in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, as part of the 39th Summit of the Central American Integration System (SICA for its Spanish initials). This time, the young participants in Vanguardia Central America / Caribbean discussed topics of particular interest to the region such as the Strengthening of Democratic Institutions, Public Safety, Competitiveness and Security in Social Communication Media, as well as important social issues of local and global interest.

The main subject of the Summit was Security and Development, focusing on the possibility that the Central American integration could offer solutions to the multidimensional problems connected to transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. The topics discussed at the Summit emerged from the reality of the Central American community where the poorest sectors, besides worrying about getting food, still keep insecurity as their daily concern, which has penetrated into all their activities becoming a permanent problem.

The Vanguardia's young participants worked on the High Level Dialogue session, which was developed with the participation of the heads from 9 countries in the region: Porfirio Lobo Sosa, president of Honduras, Laura Chinchilla Miranda, president of Costa Rica, Carlos Mauricio Funes Cartagena, president of El Salvador, Otto Fernando Perez Molina, president of Guatemala, Jose Daniel Ortega Saavedra, president of Nicaragua, Ricardo Alberto Martinelli Berrocal, president of Panama, Leonel Antonio Fernandez Reyna, president of Dominican Republic, the elected president of Honduras, Danilo Medina Sanchez and Belize's Prime Minister, Dean Oliver Barrow.

Vanguardia Central America / Caribbean's participation in the 39th SICA's Summit was organized by Espacio de Vinculacion AC, Televicentro Foundation and Honduras Chancellery.
